Valiance Online (Preview)

Valiance Online, ever heard of it? Well, if you haven’t, then you’re missing out. It looks to be very similar to City of Heroes as far as gameplay and overall feel. So, if you’ve ever played CoH, you’ll know what to expect with Valiance. In this Preview, I want to talk about some of the things you can expect from this upcoming game. Since it’s still only in the Pre-Alpha stages, there will not be a whole lot to discuss. But trust me, from what I’ve seen so far, this game looks like it has tons of potential. So, what are some things that you can start looking forward to in Valiance Online? Well, get ready to find out!

After viewing the brand new Valiance Online website (ValianceOnline.com), I learned many new things about the game. First off, there will be 11 archetypes to choose from. If you are unfamiliar with City of Heroes and are not quite sure what archetypes are, let me explain. An archetype is going to let you know the general role of your character, so let’s take the titan class (my favorite one). Titans are the tank class in this game, so by choosing to be a titan, you will be able to take lots of hits. Your going to be more of a defensive type character as opposed to an offensive one. So yeah, archetypes help you know what you will be best at doing. I suggest taking a look at the ones listed on the site, perhaps it will make more sense that way. But anyways, lets get back on track. I was very happy to see so many archetypes. They all seem to be very unique and It will be great to have so many options when creating a character.

Let’s move on to the next thing I saw, OVER 90 POWERS! Wow, that’s a lot, and lot of combinations to choose from as well. It’s always nice to have options, and with this many powers to mix and match, well, you may never run out of things to try. Seriously though, I’m so happy that we will have so many powers to choose from. It was so much fun in City of Heroes/Villains to try out as many different power combinations that I could think of. I was the kind of person who would always try to find the most obscure combo. Ya know, so that I could be one of a kind. Looks like I’ll be able to do the same here in Valiance Online.

Now for the last couple of things I want to talk about, PVE and PVP. City of Heroes had some great content for both of these two categories. I loved playing through missions during the earlier levels, and after reaching the level cap I still enjoyed them. However, I always felt like some of the missions in CoH/CoV could get a bit boring after a while. They could feel very repetitive, making you do the same basic tasks over and over again. This is where I feel Valiance can change things up a bit, by adding more in depths missions. All new objectives so that things will stay feeling fresh throughout the time you’re leveling. Also, I’m hoping to see a lot of fun and challenging end game content for those who reach the level cap and need something to do. Taskforces and strikeforces were fun in CoH/CoV, but I’d like to see Valiance take that idea and make it better. Perhaps make it easier to find a team, and maybe have different difficulties for them. Giving out some unique rewards for completing them on harder difficulties. Like special costume pieces or something. But anyways, we know there will be tons of things to do as far as PVE is concerned. On the website they state that their will be: solo play, group task forces and epic raids. Really looking forward to see where they go with all of this, should be lots of fun.

Last part of this preview that I’d like to touch on is PVP. Ah yes, Heroes versus Villains, fighting for control of the city. I always loved entering a PVP zone in CoH/CoV and being able to fight other players. On the Valiance website they say their will be the option for duels, arenas and battlegrounds for PVP. I always prefered zone PVP, it was great to be able to play against others on your time. Not having to set up a match and wait on your opponents. Of course you could always go into a zone and not find anyone. But that was also the fun of it, hunting down your opponents. I like it that they are giving us options though, so whether you like zone pvp, challenging random people to duels, or forming a more organized arena session. These options will all be there for you, so if you love PVP as much as I do, then you’ll have many different ways to go about it in Valiance Online.

I've played video games pretty much my whole life. And I'd say I love them just as much now as I did back then. I really enjoy fighting games and I'm always looking for new ones to try. I really like the competitiveness of fighters, and love testing my skills against other players. However, I also like to just sit back and relax with more casual games, too.
