Main Course: 3-2 Creepy Pyramid (by Omni024)

Hmmm, 3-2 Creepy Pyramid, sounds pretty straight-forward huh? Well with a name like this, you can probably guess what the course is going to be like. However, one thing that the AZBros agree on is, no matter what the concept or theme of a level, if done right, it can be great. The question is, does this stage accomplish that? To find out, let’s skip the appetizers, and dig right into the Main Course!

Now, when I first saw this stage, I had high hopes for it. I mean, I love the idea of pyramids, and all of the curses and death traps that come with it…. Okay, so i know that doesn’t sound all that appealing, but don’t forget, there may also be treasure! And who doesn’t like treasure? With all these things coming to mind when thinking of pyramids, you’d have to hope that a stage centered around one would utilize these ideas to their fullest potential. Well, this course does just that, Omni024 does an amazing job capturing the essence of a true “Creepy Pyramid”.

So here’s my playthrough of 3-2 Creepy Pyramid in all its glory. You’ll be able to see in the video why we selected this level to be a Main Course. But, I also want to quickly go over some parts in more detail. The areas that really stood out to me, and what I believe to be the highlights of this course.

pyramid treasure

Treasure!!!

I’ve found it! Treasure within the pyramid, its mine at last! I was very happy to see that a secret treasure room was added to this course. I feel that even though a lot of people think areas like this don’t mean a whole lot, well, they really do. I mean, it really captures the feeling of a real pyramid (at least what you’d hope from one), and also that of an actual Mario game. Every true Mario game has had secret areas like this. And I know that coins and 1-ups don’t really do a whole lot for you outside of 100 Mario challenge. However, showing off great design and concepts is just as important as making a level playable and fun. Secret areas like this encourage exploration of the stage and always feel very rewarding to find.

pyramid trap

It’s a Trap!!!

So I’ve got my treasure, now I need to escape! But of course, that’s easier said than done. Yeah, this pyramid also has traps, so be careful! As you can see, this is one of many traps that you’ll come across in this course. However, this one really stood out to me because of how it plays out. It’s very unexpected, and done in such a great way. You can see the door to your escape, but then get stopped in your tracks. Utilizing the P-switch in this way was brilliant, and I love seeing items used in unique ways. This death trap sticks to the theme of the stage, giving you that feeling of being inside an actual creepy (and deadly) pyramid.

So that’ll do it for this Main Course, sorry there wasn’t any dessert… But if you’re hungry for more, check out the rest of our content here at AZBros.com. I’m sure you’ll find something you like. I've played video games pretty much my whole life. And I'd say I love them just as much now as I did back then. I really enjoy fighting games and I'm always looking for new ones to try. I really like the competitiveness of fighters, and love testing my skills against other players. However, I also like to just sit back and relax with more casual games, too.
