MKX Kombat Pack 2 (Character Analysis)

So we finally know the characters that will be in the second Kombat Pack for MKX. In case you don’t know yet, I’ll fill you in on who’s next. Bo’ Rai Cho, Leatherface, Alien and Tri-Borg will all be new additions to the MKX roster sometime in 2016. Yes that’s right, no Rain, Sindel or Baraka this time around. Perhaps there’s still hope for these 3 later on as more DLC, but for now lets talk about the current Kombat Pack and the potential of these 4 characters.

bo rai choBo’ Rai Cho: Yes, though a bit of a shocker, Bo’ Rai Cho is returning to Mortal Kombat. He first appeared in Deadly Alliance, where he seemed more of a joke character than a fighter. Drunk and a bit overweight, Bo’ Rai Cho would stumble about while facing off against his opponents. Now, although Cho was easy to laugh at back then for his unusual fighting style and appearance, how will he be now in MKX? Will he still be a joke character? Or will he sober up and show off why he’s a master of martial arts. Yes that’s right, Bo’ Rai Cho is actually a master of martial arts and has also trained many fighters. One of his more notable students, a Grand Champion of Mortal Kombat on multiple occasions, Lui Kang. So this means that although he may seem a bit goofy, he has potential to be a pretty cool addition to MKX.

l faceLeatherface: Weilding a chainsaw, the masked killer known as Leatherface will also be joining the cast of Mortal Kombat. His first appearance was in the 1974 film “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”. In the film, Leatherface would do as his family ordered him, one of those things was killing unsuspecting victims. Why have him kill? Because they needed the bones and skin of their victims to make furniture, decorations and whatever else a family of psychos need. Yeah, pretty messed up if you ask me. But will a character like this translate well to MKX? Well, Leatherface will make for a very interesting addition to the game, that’s for sure. I mean, there’s many different weapons that have been used in the history of Mortal Kombat, but never a chainsaw. To see what Netherrealm can come up with for this character will be quite interesting. One question I have is, what will his variations be? I mean, this character kind of seems one dimensional, however, in the original film he changes his mask depending on what personalty he wants to have. So, maybe each variation will be a different mask, changing his playstyle, we’ll just have to wait and see.

alienAlien: We already got predator, so why not add Alien as well? Alien, also known as a Xenomorph, first appeared in the movie “Alien” in 1979. This extraterrestrial predator will kill all who pose a threat to it, which in this case is the rest of the cast in Mortal Kombat X. With tremendous physical strengths including a jaw that can bite through just about anything, Alien will be quite the Kombatant in MKX. I’m very interested about the addition of this character, especially after seeing the trailer, specifically the last bit of it where all 4 characters are shown on screen. Alien appears to have blades come from its arms similar to baraka. Earlier in the trailer you will even see a chestburster come out of baraka, so does this mean that this alien is part Tarkatan? Well, its a very interesting theory, and I sure hope this is the case since baraka is one of my favorite characters. So yeah, if we can’t have baraka, then a Xenomorph/Tarkatan hybrid will be a pretty nice alternative in my opinion.

tri borgTri-Borg: Last but not least we have 3 cyborgs in one, his name, Tri-Borg. So, this character is a new comer to Mortal Kombat, well, sort of. He looks to be a combo between the 3 classic cyborgs in previous Mortal Kombat games. These cyborgs are known as Sektor, Cyrax, and Smoke. So obviously this is all speculation at this point, but in the trailer you can see him transform into each of the 3 cyborgs. However, I’m really not sure if Smoke is the gray colored one or not, it would make sense, but there was no indication that this is indeed Smoke. So, if this is a new cyborg, then expect some cool new abilities from it. But most likely it is Smoke, which will make for a really awesome new fighter. The variations for Tri-Borg seem pretty obvious. A Sektor variation, a Cyrax variation, and a Smoke variation. But of course, we’ll have to wait for some gameplay in order to confirm this. So yeah, we really won’t know too much about this character or how he will play yet. Lets hope we get to see him in action soon so we can get more of an idea what Tri-Borg is all about.

So, here’s the four characters that will be in the Kombat Pack 2 for Mortal Kombat X. What do I think of these four? Well, they’re definitely not what I expected, that’s for sure. I mean, I’m fine with them but they’re definitely not my top choices when it comes to new characters to add to this game. But at the end of the day, new characters are new characters, no matter who they may be. I’ll be happy with any DLC honestly, the more new content the better, that just means the game will feel new again and have more replay value. So yeah, I’m okay with these new characters, I just hope this isn’t the last Kombat Pack. It’s possible that Netherrealm will have one last batch of DLC characters, but if not, oh well. The roster already looks great in my opinion, and with the addition of these four characters, it looks even better.

I've played video games pretty much my whole life. And I'd say I love them just as much now as I did back then. I really enjoy fighting games and I'm always looking for new ones to try. I really like the competitiveness of fighters, and love testing my skills against other players. However, I also like to just sit back and relax with more casual games, too.
