Mario Maker Update Coming 12/22
While it may not be the major DLC you were hoping for, Super Mario Maker will be receiving a couple pretty cool updates on December 22. Along with the new web portal, now named Bookmark, we’ll also receive 3 new course elements!
The first new course item is the Bumper! It’s a big ring that you can bounce off. It can be selected by shaking the Grinder (i.e. the buzzsaw). It acts similar to using Yoshi or Kuribo’s Shoe (i.e. the boot) to jump off the Grinder, but now Mario can safely jump on the Bumper without taking damage.
The second new element is the P Warp Door! At first it looks like a hidden door, and it is, but not the way you might think. You will only be able to access it by using a P Switch! This should open up some cool new “Find the P Switch” course designs.
Another interesting detail about this update is the ability to see the World Record time for a course played online. Will this make Super Mario Maker a speed runner’s dream? Probably not, but I like this new feature. It should give people new reason to go back and complete certain courses again. As well as the record time, you’ll also be able to see who the very first person was to clear a level. Kaizo course designers (and players) will really love this feature.
Finally, the last new thing included in this update is the Fire Koopa Clown Car! Wow! It’s exactly what you think it is, a Clown Car that shoots fireballs! Use this item to do so much more with your shoot ’em up style courses. Unlike using a normal Fire Flower in the Clown Car, the Fire Koopa Clown Car can shoot fireballs straight forward. Another interesting mechanic of this device is the ability to charge a fireball before shooting it. This will produce a larger, more powerful blast that can break hard bricks! Check out the video below to see all these new course elements in action.
So what do you think about these new updates? I’m guessing they’re not exactly what you were hoping for, but at least Santa brought you something. Post your thoughts below and let us know how you’ll be using these great new Mario Maker course elements!
