Main Course: Hot Diggity Cavern (by Mathgrant)
Have you been looking for a course full of moles and fire to try out? Well, I think I may have found just what you’ve been looking for. Hot Diggity Cavern is based around the use of, well, moles and fire. Guess what else, this course just so happens to take place in a cavern, how perfect! Now, I know what you may be asking yourself, how can a level that’s centered mostly around two things be featured here on AZBros.com? Well, allow me to explain, let’s skip the appetizers, and dig right into the Main Course!
So take a look at the size of this stage. It’s really rather small compared to most, but this is proof that a course of this size can still be great. Hot Diggity Cavern displays very good use of pacing, too. You are forced to stop at many locations in order to get past the task at hand. This really helps a small stage, it actually prolongs the course, making it seem bigger than it actually is.
Now, I stated earlier that this course is centered mainly around the use of moles and fire. I know, Mario Maker is packed with tons of things to use while making a course. But keep in mind, one single item can have many different uses. It all depends on how creative you are. Building a functional course around a few items while still making every area feel unique is definitely possible. I believe that Mathgrant has proved this here in Hot Diggity Cavern. He shows off many ways of slowing down the player, without boring them to death, while using just a couple of items. And on top of that, he was able to keep the stage fun and challenging. Cramming all of this into a relatively small course is definitely deserving of spot as a Main Course, good job Mathgrant.
