Main Course: Boo’s Bastion (by Dwreck)

Boo’s Bastion, so what can you expect to find in this stage? Well, boos of course, but also amazing design and a series of difficult yet fair challenges leading up to a creative boss battle. Sounds like a lot of fun, huh? Well, that’s exactly what it is. So if you’re ready for an adventure, let’s skip the appetizers, and dig right into the Main Course!

Now, I’m not the greatest player, so of course I get hit a few times during my playthrough of this level (seen in the video above). But that just shows the kind of course this is, very challenging, testing your skills at every turn. And hey, if you’re a glutton for punishment, how about trying to get through Boo’s Bastion without taking a single hit. Yeah, that would be pretty impressive, considering the size of the stage and degree of difficulty within it. So, if you’re feeling courageous, go ahead and give this little side challenge a shot. I don’t think that I would be able to do it, that’s for sure.

You will also see in the video that there are some puzzle elements within Boo’s Bastion, which really help add depth to the course. Like having to retrieve items and then find the correct spot to use them. One thing to keep in mind though, after finding a spiny helmet/P switch, be sure to clear out all the areas you can with them. You’ll want to destroy the blocks with the helmet and grab all the coins after triggering the P switch. The reason for doing this is to prevent having to back-track in case you happen to get hit. And trust me, you will most likely get hit at least once.

There are many reasons why Boo’s Bastion was chosen as a Main Course, however, the boss fight at the end really stood out to me. The creativity of the actual fight while utilizing enemies that fit with the theme of the stage really helps tie everything together. And although it may not take all that long to complete, it still challenges you and forces you to stop and figure out what needs to be done. So yeah, very nice job taking the time to make a unique and creative boss fight, Dwreck. The AZBros always appreciate when creators think outside of the box, and even more so when it’s done right.

I've played video games pretty much my whole life. And I'd say I love them just as much now as I did back then. I really enjoy fighting games and I'm always looking for new ones to try. I really like the competitiveness of fighters, and love testing my skills against other players. However, I also like to just sit back and relax with more casual games, too.
